Liturgical

Liturgical Theology

Liturgical theology is the study and elucidation of the meaning of worship, emerging directly from the Church’s liturgical celebrations as theologia prima, the primary theology rooted in the lex orandi (rule of prayer) that shapes the lex credendi (rule of faith).

It examines the theological nature of the liturgical act, focusing on what the Christian community celebrates in the Christ-event as sacrament, rather than abstract doctrines, emphasizing active participation in the divine mystery for the building up of the Church. As Pseudo-Dionysius observes, liturgy transforms the cosmos’ praise into ecclesial celebration, guiding the soul’s ascent to God through hymn and ritual, beyond mere conceptual understanding. This approach, distinct from secondary theological reflection, underpins the sacramental rhythm of the liturgical year and its feasts.

What We Offer

Hospitality

Before the Passover, Jesus… took a towel, poured water into a basin, and washed the disciples’ feet. “If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example.” Inspired by this, our Hospitality Ministry lives out Christ’s humble service. We welcome all with open hearts, making our parish a home.

What we do:

– Greet warmly at doors; welcome newcomers.

– Share info on events, sacraments, parish life.

– Assist seating for elderly, disabled.

– Aid liturgy: collection, gifts, orderly Eucharist.

– Secure property, safeguard offerings.

Gathered in worship, we are sent to serve. Join us bring Christ’s love alive!

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Parish priests may appoint Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion within their parishes, including institutions on parish grounds, and priests celebrating Mass can designate suitable ministers for specific occasions.

These ministers must be practicing Catholics whose faith, lifestyle, and conduct reflect Christian values. They assist in distributing the Eucharist with reverence and full participation in the liturgy, and may also bring Communion to the sick or homebound. Through training and ongoing formation, they learn to fulfill their duties responsibly while respecting the spiritual needs of those they serve. By doing so, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion help nourish the faith and unity of the parish community.

Sacristans

Sacristans are responsible for overseeing the sacristy and maintaining liturgical vestments, sacrea vessels, and ritual books used in worship, ensuring everything is prepared and cared for with reverence.

To serve, one must be a baptized Catholic in good standing and a contributing parish member. Sacristans need a solid understanding of liturgical rites and ceremonies and work closely with clergy, volunteers, ano staff to ensure that worship services run smoothly and reverently. Their careful attention to detail supports the seamless celebration of the Mass and other liturgies. Through their dedicated service, Sacristans help maintain the sacred atmosphere of the church while finding spiritual enrichment and a deeper connection to their faith through their ministry.

Proclaimers of the Word

Proclaimers of the Word play a vital role in the liturgy by proclaiming Scripture to the faithful, helping God’s message reach the congregation clearly and meaningfully.

They must be confirmed practicing Catholics committed to their faith and willing to participate in parish or diocesan formation. Ongoing training helps them deepen their understanding of Scripture, improve their delivery, and grow in confidence as they share God’s Word. This ministry not only involves reading aloud but also embracing the spiritual responsibility of inspiring and nourishing the faith of those gathered. Through their dedication, Proclaimers of the Word help the parish community encounter God’s message more fully.

Alter Servers

Participating as an Altar Server during Mass is a meaningful gift for a child, offering a unique way to experience the liturgy while learning valuable skills. Serving at the Altar helps children develop communication, teamwork, and self-confidence, providing a strong foundation for growth.

We invite all children who have received First Holy Communion to consider serving as Altar Servers. Regular training ensures they feel prepared and comfortable in their role. This ministry enriches their understanding of the Mass and fosters a deeper connection to their faith community as they contribute to the sacred atmosphere of worship.

Music and Audio-Visual

Our Music Ministry welcomes those with a love for sacred music to enrich worship at our weekend Masses. We are actively seeking musicians and instrumentalists, especially organists, along with choir singers who can serve the liturgy reverently and prayerfully. Musicians may also assist at fellowship gatherings and parish events.

We also invite those comfortable with technology to manage the PowerPoint during Mass, helping the congregation participate fully and actively.

Whether singing, playing or serving through technology, this ministry offers a meaningful way to support our parish’s worship and spiritual life.
